| Abstract | National Land Cover Database 2011 Land Cover, produced by MRLC (Multi-Resolution Land Characteristics Consortium). As with two previous NLCD land cover products, NLCD 2011 keeps the same 16-class land cover classification scheme that has been applied consistently across the United States at a spatial resolution of 30 meters. NLCD 2011 is based primarily on a decision-tree classification of circa 2011 Landsat satellite data. Full metadata are included in the nlcd2011.img.xml or nlcd2011.html files located in the same path as the original maintenance format raster. The release in 2014 of amended versions of land cover for 2001, 2006, and 2011 was made to correct for unintended differences between the impervious dataset and the four land cover developed classes. Original raster layer converted to polygon features for enhanced display in PimaMaps and in MapGuide (esp. maptips) at scales greater than 1:50,000. -- See more information. | |
| Known errors/qualifications | In order to facilitate easier comparisons with the 2006 National Land Cover Database layer (NLCD2006), pixels were resampled--using the Nearest Neighbor method--when reprojecting the data. This produced horizontal rows that line up with the rows in the 2006 dataset. However, the resulting pixels don't represent the exact same area on the ground that the original satellite sensor collected. | |
