There are three versions of the MapGuide Viewer:
This page discusses the Java Edition MapGuide Viewer. For the uninstalling the ActiveX control or plugin version, see Uninstalling the Autodesk MapGuide Viewer.
We are not familiar with all the possibilities for where the MapGuide Viewer Java Edition may be manually installed on the various platforms that can run the MapGuide Viewer Java Edition. This page explains as much as we know about it.
Generally, the Java Edition MapGuide Viewer is downloaded dynamically like any other web file if it's not already in the browser's cache. You may want to try to do an installation of Java Edition if you are a Java Edition user and want to speed up starting your MapGuide map initial display.
Autodesk supports the Mapguide Viewer Java Edition using Internet Explorer and Netscape 4.7 on Windows, but we don't. We have the installation pages here for reference only.
If the MapGuide Viewer Java Edition has not been installed, it may only reside in the web browser's cache files. In any event, the installation consists of a single "mgjava.jar" file. It's possible for there to be more than one copy of "mgjava.jar" in different places (web browser cache, jar cache, installation directory).
To manually install the Java Edition MapGuide Viewer, download the "mgjava.jar" file from one of the above links and copy it to the location specified on the Java Edition Manual Installation page. You can also find the "mgjava.jar" file on our FTP server at ftp://ftpgis.pima.gov/pub/software/mapguide/javaedition65/mgjava.jar. If you are upgrading, you may want to search your hard disk(s) for the locations of any installed "mgjava.jar" files that need to be replaced or deleted.
Even if you did a manual installation of the Java Edition MapGuide Viewer, there's generally no need or reason to uninstall the MapGuide Viewer once you have it installed. If you find a need to uninstall a manually installed Java Edition MapGuide Viewer, search your hard disk(s) for the "mgjava.jar" file and delete it. If you find more than one, delete them all.
You may also want to delete a manual installation of an "mgjava.jar" file in order to replace it with a newer version.
