MapGuide Tutorial: Creating Reports

Using Autodesk MapGuide's reports feature, you can create reports on a data layer's selected objects. These reports are displayed in another browser window and can be printed and saved using browser options, typically File, Print... and File, Save As...

Creating a Report

  1. Select one or more map layer features (such as parcels) as the basis for the report by clicking on the parcels, by creating a buffer and selecting the map layer features in the buffer area, or by some other means:
  2. Click on the report icon in the MapGuide toolbar or right-click View, View Reports... to bring up the list of available reports as outlined below.
  3. Click on the desired report format and then click "OK". The report is generated and displayed in another browser window.
  4. View, print or save the report. Printing and saving is done using browser options, typically File, Print... and File, Save As... If you use Save As..., it is usually best to name the saved file with a .txt extension. You can also use standard Windows techniques to copy some or all of the report to the Windows clipboard and paste it into another application.

Types of Available Reports

Reports are available for the following map data layers (and more...):

Comma delimited files are a common interchange format between software programs and can be imported into programs such as Access, Excel, Word, dBASE and others. Use the browser's File, Save As... menu options to save this report as .txt or .csv file, then use your software's import capability to load it.

You select one or more map features on one of the above data layers and then choose from one of the following reports.

Parcel Reports

All parcel reports include the owners' mailing addresses in various forms. The owner's mailing address is often different than the situs address which is the actual street address of the property, if any. For instance, the owner may live in another state or receive his mail at another address separate from the parcel. While situs addresses may look like mailing addresses and may be formatted as mailing addresses, keep in mind that not all situs addresses can receive mail. See About situs addresses for more. While you may want to mail to the situs address, usually you want to contact the owner and not the occupant. The mailing address is preferred in most cases.

Parcel Situs Address Reports

While situs addresses may look like mailing addresses and may be formatted as mailing addresses, keep in mind that not all situs addresses can receive mail. See About situs addresses for more.
