Tips for Using Brava! Reader to View our TIFF Images
Configuration
After downloading and installing the Brava! Viewer you'll want to set it as the default application for viewing TIFF
documents and to open inside web browser if you are using Internet Explorer.
This is important!
- Launch the Brava!Reader application from the Desktop icon or Program Menu option.
- Within the application choose Options on the top menu bar.
- Select Set As Default Viewer.
- Select the Display the Brava! Reader Inside Internet Explorer tab.
- Expand the Imaging Format(s) folder and place check marks in both the .tif and .tiff boxes.
This sets Brava! Viewer as your default TIFF image viewer within Internet Explorer.
Note: Beginning in Brava Viewer version 2.5.0.4 our experience has been that this feature does not
work on all PC's. We have not yet determined why it works on some PC's and not others.
- If you want the Brava! Viewer as your default TIFF viewer outside of Internet Explorer
then complete the same task under the Open with Brava! Reader tab.
- Click OK to save your settings.
- Close all open Internet Explorer sessions and reopen Internet Explorer to get the updated settings.
- Test the browser plug-in function using this TIFF test file.
Check to see that it opens within the Internet Explorer window.
Common Tasks
While the same functionality is available through either method of using the viewer, menu options are displayed
differently when you are using the stand alone Brava!Viewer application
versus the Brava! Viewer ActiveX plug-in within Internet Explorer.
The tips below describe the Internet Explorer ActiveX (plugin) application,
which is how you'll typically view TIFF images from our site.
When viewing a TIFF image from within your browser, notice that there are
menu bar icons both above and below the TIFF image.
To see the function of each icon, place and hold your cursor
over an icon until the tooltip label box appears. (These tooltip labels appear when you have the default arrow cursor activated.)
- Printing a Portion of an Image
Unlike other viewers that may have you zoom to a desired view and then print the current view,
Brava! Reader allows you to select (define) the area you wish to print while you continue to view a larger portion of the document.
The printer icon at the top provides both "Print" and "Print Region" options.
Print Region allows you to define an area of the image that you want to include in the print.
After choosing Print Region, the cursor appears as a dashed cross hair. Position the cross hairs at a corner of the area you
want to include in the print and then left click the mouse.
While holding the left click button down, drag the cursor until the area you want
is defined by the dashed-line rectangle.
Release the mouse button and a dialogue box with printing options will appear.
Select the desired options and continue to print using the dialog's Print button.
- Zooming to Areas in an Image
Both the Zoom Window and Zoom In/Out tools appear as magnifying glass icons.
The Zoom Window icon includes a small square in the top left corner.
Select this tool and then click on the map at a corner of the area you want to zoom to.
While holding the left click button down, drag the cursor until the area you want
is defined by the rectangle. Release the mouse button and the viewer will zoom to the defined area.
The Zoom In/Out icon has a double ended vertical arrow beside the magnifying glass.
Select this tool then click anywhere on the map.
Hold the left mouse button down and move the cursor vertically
up and down to zoom in and out.
- Magnifying a Portion of the Displayed Image
Click the Magnifier icon (a plain magnifying glass) to activate a magnifying window over the document.
You can click and drag the magnified window anywhere on the image.
You can shrink or grow the window by clicking and dragging a corner of the magnified window.
The thin vertical bar located on the right side of the magnifying window has a marker that can be dragged
up or down to change the magnification. Clicking on the magnifying glass icon in the upper left
corner of the magnifying window locks the current magnified view even if you move the window.
To close the magnifying window use the red X found in the upper right hand corner or pick another tool.
- Rotating an Image
Click the 90° icon found in the bottom left hand corner of the
viewer window to rotate the document 90°. Repeat as desired.
- Accessing Brava! Reader Help
Access the help menus through the circular tool with the ? symbol.
