RealDownload Program Interferes with TIFF Viewing!

RealDownload and possibly other download tools and assistants such as Netzip Download Demon prevent viewing of TIFF files! If you have RealDownload installed when you attempt to view a TIFF image, it takes over by default and downloads the TIFF image file to your harddisk instead of letting you view the image with a TIFF viewer plug-in.

Our solution for RealDownload

Either uninstall the RealDownload program or change the file type options as follows:

• Start RealDownload. (You may need to try to download a file to do this.)
• Select the Tools button.
• Select Options..., then pick the File Types tab.
• Scroll through the list of file types, pick TIF to select it, and pick the Remove button. Do the same for the TIFF file type.
• Close the RealDownload windows normally.

The RealNetworks solution for RealDownload

RealNetworks, the makers of RealDownload suggest disabling browser Integration. When a user disables Browser Integration, it disables RealDownload from handling downloads triggered from the browser. This may be helpful if the user wants to download from a link, but does not want RealDownload to come up.

• Right mouse-click on the RealDownload icon in the system tray and choose Disable Browser Integration, or…
• Go into RealDownload, Options and uncheck Enable Browser Integration, or…
• Click on Start, and choose Programs, RealDownload, and finally Disable Browser Integration.
