Abstract | Burned area boundaries from the MTBS (Monitoring Trends in Burn Severity) program, for the years 1984 to 2016 and for Pima County and vicinity. The original source burned area boundaries dataset is a vector polygon ESRI shapefile of the extent of the burned areas of all currently completed MTBS fires for the continental United States, Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico. Monitoring Trends in Burn Severity (MTBS) is an interagency program whose goal is to consistently map the burn severity and extent of large fires across all lands of the United States from 1984 to present. This includes all fires 1000 acres or greater in the western United States and 500 acres or greater in the eastern United States. The extent of coverage includes the continental U.S., Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico. The program is conducted by the U.S. Geological Survey Center for Earth Resources Observation and Science (EROS) and the USDA Forest Service Geospatial Technology and Applications Center (GTAC). MTBS Data Access: Fire Level Geospatial Data. (2017, July - last revised). MTBS Project (USDA Forest Service/U.S. Geological Survey). Available online: http://mtbs.gov/direct-download [2017, July12]. This layer was created as one baseline dataset for the MSCP's Landscape Pattern Monitoring process; this is the reason 2016 was the final year used. 1984 was the first year of data available and so all fires from 1984 to 2016 were included. Additionally, only fires 1,000 acres and greater located within 4 miles of the Pima County border were selected. -- See more information. | |
